Veresegyház

The rich historical past, listed Baroque heritage buildings and naturally beautiful surroundings of Veresegyház make it a popular tourist destination. In 1999 the settlement was granted city status.

The inhabitants once worked in agriculture, and there is a particularly strong tradition of strawberry production; this provides the base motif of the village's coat of arms. The importance of the fruit is also expressed in the fresco on the ceiling of the Roman Catholic church, in which strawberries are offered as thanksgiving to the Virgin Mary.

The beautiful scenery around Veresegyház Lake had already made this a lively and popular resort by the early 20th century. The current face of this rapidly and dynamically developing small town is defined by the elements of traditional provincial architecture alongside modern architectural solutions.

The settlement has a thriving cultural life. Several artist groups are based here. The Roman Catholic and the Reformed churches regularly host organ concerts.
A bear rescue centre has been established at the edge of Veresegyház where endangered wolves also find their refuge.
