Balatonalmádi

One of the largest settlements on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, it is situated to the north-eastern end. Balatonalmádi is not only known as a popular resort but also for its ecclesiastical heritage.

Starting in 1889 regular Balaton boat lines called in at Almádi which was linked to the rail network in 1909 when its railway station was built. It has been officially known as Balatonalmádi since 1901.
Another boom period for the town occurred at the turn of the last century when complementary medicine became locally popular. In 1961 Almádi was proclaimed a preferential resort zone.
Káptalanfüred, which means Chapter Bath, was established in the 1930's as a resort and later merged with Balatonalmádi which was granted city status in 1989.
